StretchingStretching is one of the most neglected activities with people who are in pain. This often causes them to limit their motion to keep from hurting worse than they already are. However, scientific research has shown that stretching after the immediate swelling period has occurred is very important to return proper motion and to avoid scar tissue from forming in the muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints. Much like the skin develops a scar from a deep cut, the muscles can develop scars that prevent normal flexibility and will cause repeat flare-ups of pain in the back and neck. We hear it all the time at Chiro Cleveland: "I've had neck pain for years! It'll last for a couple weeks then it is gone again. I can't figure out what causes it." We also hear frequently that our patients have gone to the doctor before but no one could tell them why they are in pain. This is the tell-tale sign that scar tissue is present in the muscles which usually feels like a "knot" along with deep achy pain. Through medical massage and stretching performed by the massage therapist, the scar tissue melts away and normal muscle function is returned. These episodes of repeat neck and back pain can be treated. It's just a matter of getting some quality chiropractic treatment. |
