Rehabilitation Exercise


​The future in health care and chiropractic care is incorporating exercise to develop physical health.
 
Therefore, in order to bring lasting pain relief and to put spinal health back into the hands of our patients, we focus on the importance of regular exercise. The doctor is highly trained in all forms of exercise and is skilled in teaching his patients which is most beneficial for their body. The philosophy of Dr. Medlong is that the only way to have healthy muscles is if they are getting regular use. In our day and age, it can be difficult to get enough movement throughout the day that is healthy for our muscles, which are designed to be moving for at least 12 hours a day. For that reason, regular exercise is crucial for those that have a desk job.

For our patients that are athletes that are suffering from a sports injury or from pain that has been slowly getting worse over time, he offers treatment sessions that evaluates their current exercise program to figure out what may be causing the pain. Commonly these conditions are caused by repetitive stress to certain muscles because of muscle imbalance. Many of his patients are avid athletes such as runners, performance dancers, CrossFit participants and triathletes.

Most people want to live healthy lives, but don't know how. Our goal is to educate our patients about how to perform the right core exercises and which ones will help with their specific problem. We look at sitting and standing posture, muscle strength, muscle balance, coordination and the position of the curves in the patient's spine.

Many people spend thousands of dollars on personal trainers and going to the gym. When you perform exercises in our clinic, you have the one-on-one attention of a chiropractor who is there to answer any of your questions and give you instruction so that when you are done with treatment you are comfortable performing the stretching and exercises on your own.

Nothing gives us more satisfaction than knowing that our patients walk away from our clinic knowing how to properly care for their spine. Low Back Exercise


​Back Extension-Stretch

This is a really good stretch to bring some relief to back pain and some cases of sciatica. 

Hold the stretch for 30 seconds to 2 minutes

​Bridge Exercise

An easier back exercise to strength the muscles of the core and back.

3 sets of 15 reps

Back Extension Exercise
A more advanced low back exercise.

3 sets of 15 reps

Superman- Back Exercise
This exercise works all of the muscles of the back and helps with coordination.

3 sets of 15 reps

Squat
It is essential to perform the squat with proper form to get the most out of this exercise and to avoid injury. 

3 sets of 15 reps

​Lateral Bridge

The best workout to gain low back strength and to prevent injury.

3 sets of 15 reps, each side 

​Cross-Crawl Exercise
This exercise works on balance and spine muscle strength.

3 sets of 15 reps, each side

​Hamstring Stretch
This can be performed in a doorway to help with balance.

Hold each stretch for 30 seconds to 2 minutes

​Cat/Camel Stretch
A good stretch that improves mobility throughout the spine.

3 sets of 15 reps

Neck Exercise


​Neck Stretches
These stretches help bring relief to tense neck muscles often associated with headaches.

Hold each stretch for 30 seconds to 2 minutes
